Bush Bash ’19
Logo, annual identity and merch. Freelance work, summer ’18–’19
Bush Bash is a live music and arts gig on a nature reserve in Wellington City. After the success of three Bush Bashes, I was asked to develop an overarching logotype for the event. The result is just neutral enough to be used alongside each year’s ever-changing posters and collateral, while still showing personality.
Shortly after this, I developed Bush Bash 2019’s identity. Its colour palette was inspired by the psych rock acts that make up much of the event. Illustrations show the event’s unique quirks: audience members in trees, native birds, and the best view of the stars in central Wellington.
Bush Bash ’19 featured nine bands including Linen, Being., and Church of Goya, as well as three poets including Tayi Tibble. News of the event spread primarily through Facebook. The location was only revealed to those who bought tickets.
The typography in “Bush Bash” is modified so the words stack neatly on top of each other, echoing the event name’s alliteration and making it easy on the eyes. While developing this, the slogan “shh, it’s a secret” also came to mind.
